Japanese interment memorial.During pearl harbor Americans captured all the Japanese immigrants and held them captive in camps. The Japanese interment memorial is an immigration story from left to rights. Starting with Japanese immigrates arriving dressed traditionally fro San Francisco. Then they start to dress more modernly and began farming and began to modernize. The barbed wire was loose like on a farm then became more taunt to keep the immigrates in. They were also not prepared for such extreme weathers, when it got cold in got really cold, and when it got hot, it got really hot. They had to move horses out of the stables and move people in. The Mons, are family crest which are on all sides of the memorial. There is a paper airplane whih stands for the freedom they didn't have.The crosses show that they converteted to christianity which represented their alligence to this country.


My favorite part are the Mons because its really cool to see how different each family is and what represents them.

I encountered the word, cede when reading an article for my Journalism 61 class. 

And neither network wants to cede editorial control to CNN.

cede |sēd|verb [ trans. ]give up (power or territory) : they have had to cede control of the schools to the government.

I had to cede because I knew that I needed to ask for help, in oder to continue.

I encountered the word, retrenchment when reading an article for my Journalism 61 class. 

The same compelling motive already instigated strategic retrenchment at ABC’s broadcast competitors.

retrench |riˈtren ch |verb [ intrans. ](of a company, government, or individual) reduce costs or spending in response to economic difficulty : as a result of the recession the company retrenched | [ trans.] if people are forced to retrench their expenditure trade will suffer.

California should be in a state of retrenchment. 

Story Spin

New downtown Santa Cruz parking fees go into effect Monday

The city of Santa Cruz will now start charging patrons 50 cents per hour or $5 per day to park in a currently free parking lot outside the Farmers Market. The benefits are that know people don't have to move their cars every three hours. The disadvantages will be that people will no long have the option of free parking. The city will bring in a revenue of about $355,000.

1. This story could have a follow up story about where this new revenue is going to go.
2. This story might then be spun into seeing if other California cities would start this process.
3. This story could then turn into a state wide process to make money and get California out of it deficit.

I encountered the word, verve when taking notes in my Journalism 61 class. 

Verbs add verve when engaging your senses in a story.

My verve was seen by all when I went to the basketball game. 

Mystery Person

I have walked this earth for 46 years but I still make all the women drool. I have accomplished a lot and have been rewarded, however I hate accepting awards because I am modest and shy, only when it comes to that. I normally stay with long wavy locks to my ears that I run my fingers through for dramatic effect. My hair is dark brown but has glistening gold highlights. Facial hair is also something that seems to remain on the tip of my chin and above and below my sensual lips that also has a cigarette hanging out of it. Normally, large black frames rest a top my nose. Hats and bandanas also seems to grace my head often, I am also adored with necklaces and leather cuffs on my wrists. My rather plain t-shirts slightly show off the tattoos on my arms as well as my toned body for a middle-aged man. I was born in the south but you would never have guessed that now because I fit the stereotype of a cool-laid back Californian. I have lived a frivolous life of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll but have mellowed down now that I am married and have two kids.

I encountered the word, recluse when reading about my mystery character. 

Following a move to Florida, and his parents divorce by age 16, Depp strayed from his peers and siblings and reclused within a life of drugs and alcohol.

I started to recluse when my friends started to move away to college and I was still in  high school.

I encountered the word, castigating when reading a news article. 

Weeks after Florina took the Web by storm with the "demon sheep" video castigating rival Tom Campbell for not being fiscally conservative enough. 

castigate |ˈkastəˌgāt|verb [ trans. ] formalreprimand (someone) severely : he was castigated for not setting a good example.

I was castigated because I got caught cheating on my test.

Stalking is something that courts take lightly now days.

Florida woman, Alissa Blanton, filed for an order of protection against a man who had continually sent her harassing e-mails and stalked her since she was a waitress at Hooters.

The court ruled her evidence to be not enough to rule her protection, and protection is something she didn’t have when she was shot and killed in a parking lot.

I think it is incredibly sad the courts don’t take stalking and harassing behavior seriously.

Clearly they should pay more attention to these kinds of allegations because it has cost someone their life.

The man that shot and killed Blanton, turned the gun on himself, now there is no one to service justice for this crime.

Who should pay the price for her death?

I think that the courts should be held responsible for her death, because with an order of protection, maybe this poor woman’s life would have been saved.

No one’s voice should go unheard, and no ones fear should go unnoticed, this should be a lesson to all.

I encountered the word, affluent in a textbook for my journalism 61 class: Inside Reporting.

Net-Newsers use the Web as their main news source. They're the youngest, best educated, most affluent of the four groups, they're plugged in to the latest technology.

All About Me

My name is Chanell Schamber and I am a Colony Sister of Alpha Xi Delta at San Jose State University.

In Fall 2009 Alpha Xi Delta was brought to San Jose State University as a colony. Being a colony means its the first time that this sorority has been to a school. Being the first semester on campus, a group of 45 women pledged to be sisters and started a new chapter of their lives with Alpha Xi Delta.

This past weekend all 45 women were initiated into Alpha Xi Delta. Also, during this weekend we received our charter, which means we were no longer a colony and we were an official chapter of Alpha Xi Delta. Getting a charter was a huge accomplishment for our chapter, and becoming the founding sisters at this school was extremely exciting. Few people get to sign the plaque that hangs in their greek houses as a founding member and where their chapter was established. Being one of 45 talented women to do that was not only an honor but moving as well.

Now being an official member of Alpha Xi Delta the Iota Omicron chapter at San Jose State University, we will be recruiting more fabulous women to join us in our sisterhood, in our ideals, and in our giving!

Alpha Xi Delta has become a huge part of my life that I look forward to everyday. Having these sisters has changed the way I look at sororities. I was the girl that said I would never join a sorority and now it’s the best decision I have made in my college career. I hold a position where I get to teacher new members what our beliefs and ideals are, while inspiring them to realize their potential. I am so excited to start recruitment to bring in wonderful that will make our chapter better!
